Estimator – Houston, TX

General Contractor | Ground-Up Commercial Projects | Up to $50M

Our client, a reputable General Contractor based in Houston, is seeking a talented Estimator to join their growing preconstruction team.

This firm specializes in ground-up commercial projects across K-12, municipal, industrial, and government sectors, with project values typically ranging from $5M to $50M. They pride themselves on quality, collaboration, and long-term relationships with both clients and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for ground-up commercial projects
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive bid proposals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings and assist in developing budgets and value-engineering options
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure a smooth project handoff
  • Review project plans and identify potential risks, discrepancies, or opportunities for cost savings
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing, materials, and construction methods

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an Estimator within a commercial general contracting environment
  • Proven experience estimating ground-up commercial projects in K-12, municipal, industrial, or government sectors
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and materials
  • Proficiency in estimating software (such as On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar)
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
  • Stable employment history with reputable contractors
