Our Lady of the Lake is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to serve as our Laboratory Supervisor , leading with integrity and compassion. This role includes oversight and hands-on expertise in flow cytometry , supporting advanced diagnostic services that directly impact patient outcomes. You will combine your clinical knowledge and leadership skills to guide and develop a dedicated laboratory team while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and service.

The Laboratory Supervisor oversees the staff, promotes effective relationships within the hospital, monitors work, assist in the preparation of performance appraisals and the development of operating budgets and investigating new clinical techniques. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Leads and directs the work of others.

Responsibilities

  1. Assists in the effective hiring and training process for department staff and assigns and monitors staff work and work schedules according to department policy
  2. Maintains appropriate data on employee attendance for payroll/ATM. Maintains appropriate data on employee performance for counseling and performance review
  3. Address employee behavioral issues timely and effectively and demonstrates ability to coach and mentor staff
  4. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Customer Service: Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently in an effort to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory service customers. Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas and requests and orders supplies as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services whenever possible.
  • Quality: Quality is paramount in all aspects of daily function and work processes to include assisting in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement programs and participation in multi-disciplinary CQI efforts. Promotes and encourages the growth and development of all personnel by encouraging their participation in approved continuing education activities and advocates continuing education as a means of promoting the high quality services provided by all departmental personnel. Stays abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise through participation in job-relevant seminars and workshops, attendance at professional conferences, and affiliations with national and state professional organizations.
  • Possesses a keen knowledge of job responsibilities with an ongoing effort of continuing education to ensure high quality health care utilizing understanding and respect. That knowledge is also structured to avoid waste through the conservation of all valuable hospital materials in a prudent and efficient manner.
  • Consistently exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the approach to job related duties in an effort to maintain high standards in the delivery of quality health care services.
  • Compliance: Performs an acceptable productivity level when assisting in developing, preparing, and recommending annual departmental operating and capital budgets and monitors the economical use and procurement of equipment, supplies, and personnel. Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out in order to control hospital and departmental costs and conserve all hospital resources. Investigates new techniques, practices, and equipment in an effort to identify ways of maximizing the quality and efficiency of health care services provided to patients. Schedules and assigns work to staff members, monitors work quality and quantity, and ensures efficient departmental operations by providing back-up supervisory support when needed. Assists in planning short and long term projects, and provides feedback to employees thus providing adequate communication and understanding.
  • Combines ethical judgement with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision making processes and in the performance of procedures.
  • Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, especially those not covered by written or verbal instructions, in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the working environment.
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards. Consultation/ Partnership-Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals.

Qualifications

  • 3 years experience as a Medical Technologist
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Licensed in Louisiana as Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist (CLS-S)
