The Museum Educator 2 works closely with all departments in leading and shaping educational programs to be relevant, responsive, and audience focused. The Museum Educator 2 creates innovative programming, forges partnerships with University of Miami faculty, students, and community groups to grow programs for evolving audiences ranging from young professionals to multi-generational families. The incumbent cultivates an engaged corps of volunteers who contribute to the success of Museum programs and initiatives.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

  • Lead staff member for the development of K-12 programming and Volunteer Management.
  • Conducts K-12 tours.
  • Designs and conducts K-12 teacher professional development workshops.
  • Provides training for school tour museum volunteers on appropriate school tour content, equitable teaching approaches, group management techniques, engagement skills and other proficiencies required to lead school tours.
  • In collaboration with the education department staff conducts regular assessments of school tour volunteers.
  • Develops family-friendly interpretive materials and interactive gallery activities and maintains art supplies for activities.
  • Recruit and interview new volunteers; process institutional paperwork.
  • Maintains accurate volunteer database; this includes addition of new volunteers, updating and deleting of existing records, and tracking of volunteer hours.
  • Schedules volunteers for Museum events, classes, and camps.
  • Provides volunteer orientation and oversight at select public programs, events, and camps.
  • Prepares volunteer evaluations and reports as needed.
  • Serves as back-up for the other Museum Educator 2.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in computer software and cloud-based systems (i.e. Microsoft 365 Office).
  • Proven experience developing interpretive tours for a variety of audiences, including visitor-centered, participatory gallery interpretation materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work well at all levels of the organization, including executive staff, peers, and volunteers. Previous experience working with volunteers is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; public speaking skills required. Proofreading skills necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills and a positive attitude.
  • Creative thinker and problem-solver. Consensus builder.
