PARK MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – SANTA CRUZ DISTRICT / ROADS, TRAILS, & EQUIPMENT / HENRY COWELL REDWOODS STATE PARK

The reporting location for this position is Henry Cowell Redwoods SP in Felton, CA. This position will work under the direction of Park Maintenance Chief I.   

The Park Maintenance Assistant duties will include trail maintenance and construction projects throughout the Santa Cruz District. The incumbent will be responsible for performing both general labor and skilled labor. The incumbent will lead in-house crews, conservation crews and volunteer crews on all facets of trail maintenance and construction, as well as fire recovery. Ability to operate and maintain chainsaws at a skilled level is desirable. This position is required to work on projects in spike camps throughout the district as well as working outside in all types of weather conditions. This position is an excellent opportunity to work throughout the Santa Cruz District's extensive and diverse trails system.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Wednesday to Wednesday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM

This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year. Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Typical work activities involve frequent periods of hiking, digging, bending, stooping, carrying, and lifting. May have extensive exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. May work and camp in remote locations as well as during in all types of weather conditions. May require heavy physical work including lifting, pushing, or pulling.
