Job Description

Position Overview:

Senior/Lead Purchasing Specialist is responsible for overseeing the procurement of raw materials and supplies to support the production operations of the company’s Lighting division. Reporting directly to the President, this role works closely with a cross-functional team that includes Warehouse, Production, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Service. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and possess a strong attention to detail. This role is critical in ensuring efficient procurement processes, vendor performance, cost control, and supply chain reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee purchasing activities for raw materials and supplies to support production.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Warehouse teams to resolve procurement-related issues.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure: On-time delivery, shipment and paperwork accuracy, along with resolution of material or invoicing disputes.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the supplier base: Source and onboard new vendors, improve support from existing suppliers, address performance issues with leadership, including potential vendor discipline or removal, and collaborate with Product Management to identify and implement BOM (Bill of Materials) cost reductions.
  • Use data-driven decision-making to maintain appropriate minimum stock levels, reorder points, along with reorder quantities.
  • Track and improve key procurement metrics: Time from requisition to order, order consolidation, and competitive bidding and cost validation.

Qualifications & Success Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on purchasing experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with a proven ability to: Reduce requisition-to-order time, Consolidate and streamline purchasing, Manage vendor negotiations and performance, as well as Drive BOM cost reductions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with ERP or MRP systems is required; NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data for purchasing decisions.
  • Experience sourcing, evaluating, and onboarding new vendors to diversify and strengthen supply chains.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
