Downhole Chemical Solutions (DCS) is an Employee-Owned oil and gas chemical company specializing in hydraulic fracturing optimization through data-driven decision making. Founded in 2015, DCS focuses on being the best at a targeted set of solutions, supported by a strong culture of innovation in technology, operations, and engineering.
We are strengthening our engineering team to support the continued evolution of our industrial automation and data infrastructure. This position is ideal for a systems/automation engineer who wants to work at the intersection of industrial controls and modern data engineering . Though your background may be stronger on the PLC/HMI side, majority of ongoing work (~80%) is focused on data systems development , driven by the rapid growth of our analytics and technology programs. You will maintain and improve industrial automation logic while also contributing heavily to building databases, data pipelines, and data acquisition frameworks that power our operations.
Location and Schedule
· In-person - Lafayette, LA
Location Requirement: Candidates must currently reside in Lafayette, LA . Applications from individuals living outside the Lafayette area will not be considered.
· Monday-Friday 8 AM - 5 PM
· Employee will work in DCS’s engineering department, and report to the Engineering Manager – Data & IT
Salary:
65,000 – 80,000 annually - commensurate with experience
Primary job responsibilities & expectations
Industrial Automation & Controls (Background Focus — ~20%)
· Develop, maintain, and enhance DCS industrial programs (RedLion Crimson HMI, IDEC PLC)
· Troubleshoot automation program bugs, logic errors, and data flow issues
· Support controls design improvements and feature additions for field equipment
· Ensure reliable, accurate data acquisition from industrial systems into DCS platforms
Data Engineering & Infrastructure (Primary Workload — ~80%)
· Develop and maintain databases, data warehouses, and data lake environments
· Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest operational and industrial datasets
· Improve data quality, transformation workflows, storage performance, and governance
· Work closely with operations, engineering, and IT stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions
· Maintain clear and organized technical documentation for both automation and data systems
Requirements
· Industrial, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or relevant degree
· Professional experience with control system architecture (IDEC PLCs, Red Lion HMI, or similar)
· Exposure to database or data engineering concepts (SQL, ETL, data modeling)
· Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving abilities
· Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities
· Comfortable collaborating with field staff, engineers, and cross-functional teams
Desired Skills
· Experience with relational database design and management
· Familiarity with SQL Server, MySQL, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or similar
· Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP)
· Experience with scripting or programming languages (Python preferred)
· Interest in learning modern data engineering frameworks and cloud tools
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to debug and support existing applications
